Mr. Hersh is a Co-Founder and the Chief Executive Officer of NGP Energy Capital Management where he coordinates the activities of all its investment vehicles to ensure maximum synergy across investment silos. Mr. Hersh also serves as a Managing Partner of the NGP funds and chairs the Investment Committees of NGP, NGPC and NGP ETP. He co-manages NGP’s investment portfolio and oversees the firm’s ongoing investment sourcing, analysis and execution efforts. In addition to his influence over NGP’s core investment process, Mr. Hersh’s transaction skills and personal network of public and private capital sources are among the best in the industry. This enables NGP to take the lead in some of the more elaborate and complex transactions in the industry.
Prior to co-founding NGP, Mr. Hersh was employed from 1985 to 1987 in the Energy Group within Morgan Stanley & Company’s Investment Banking division, where he specialized in oil and gas financing and merger and acquisition transactions.
Mr. Hersh currently serves on the Dean’s Council of the Harvard Kennedy School and on the Advisory Councils of The Graduate School of Business at Stanford University and The Bendheim Center for Finance at Princeton University. He is a frequent lecturer at industry functions covering topics relating to the energy, corporate finance and private equity sectors, and has been a frequent contributor on CNBC. Mr. Hersh is a member of the World Economic Forum where he has been a featured speaker at its annual meeting held in Davos, Switzerland. He also serves on the International Business Council’s G20 CEO Task Force on Commodities in conjunction with the International Chamber of Commerce.
Mr. Hersh received a B.A. in Politics, magna cum laude, in 1985 from Princeton University and an M.B.A. in 1989 from Stanford University, where he graduated as an Arjay Miller Scholar.
